The Hermitage at Monovar

Author: Theodore Category: Holiday Ideas

The Hermitage of Santa Barbara is located in a small town in the south east of Spain called Monovar. The name Monovar is supposedly from the Arab word "manowar" which means beacon and probably refers to the Arabic castle which is located on one of the hills. The Hermitage of Santa Barbara was built in the 18th century by Tomas Estacios, and from the vantage point on which he built, you can see across the whole valley and indeed the town of Monovar. The Hermitage was originally constructed on the site of another building which had to be demolished. This building was originally built at the beginning of the 17th century.

Monovar is positioned between two hills and on the opposite hill to the Hermitage of Santa Barbara is an old Arabic castle which dates back to the 12th century. The Moors invaded this land a few centuries before and brought with them some knowledge about agriculture and irrigation. The 12th century castle is in ruins and there is really only part of one of the tower which is still standing. Over many years, archaeologists have excavated the area in an attempt to discover important clues as to the past of Monovar and the surrounding region. On the hill, they have discovered pieces of pottery that are from the Bronze Age period. Findings like this are a relatively frequent occurrence in this region because it is believed that people lived and travelled through here and going as far back as the Neolithic period.

Monovar is a great place to stay if you are looking for a relaxing vacation. There are many different areas to visit in the Costa Blanca; some of these places such as Benidorm are focused towards the party crowd during the summer months and many expatriate retirees from northern European countries during the mild winter months. But, a small town like Monovar is attracting a different type of tourist of together with the promise of a vacation full of relaxation. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in this town where you will be dutifully served with the freshest ingredients that you can find, and wine that is made locally from the local grapes.

Flights to Sao Paulo Brazil

Author: Theodore Category: Tickets

Flights to Sao Paulo Brazil are either annoying or plentiful depending on the area where you live. Americans (citizens of the United States, that is) have the benefit of being relatively close to their fantastic southern neighbor. Flights to Sao Paulo are usually via Miami, which boasts both a large Brazilian community as well as proximity to this destination. For this reason, flights from this city will tend to be cheaper. You can also save by searching for lower priced tickets during seasons which are slower for tourism, specifically from the middle of June until the middle of September. From the months of March through June, you may also get tickets which will be relatively cheap, though not as cheap as the previously cited time frame. Forget about getting a cheap deal on flights to Sao Paulo anytime around Carnaval, which is held in either February or March. This is when the biggest party in the world happens, and air tickets to Brazil will be expensive up to several months before the event. Keep in mind that the seasons are opposite in the southern hemisphere, which means February is high summer in Brazil.

For travelers departing from Europe, you can find good deals if you depart from Lisbon. Brazil was once a colony of Portugal and they two countries still share Portuguese as a common language, so many Portuguese visit Brazil and vice versa.

If you happen to live in Japan or east Asia, good luck! You are basically on the exact opposite side of the globe from Brazil; if you drilled a hole straight down through the earth like in the old cartoons, you will wind up in Brazil. Judging from Bugs Bunny’s time of a few seconds to reach China by drilling through the earth, it might be faster than taking the 30 hour+ flight to Sao Paulo Brazil

Activities For a Family Camping Getaway

Author: Theodore Category: Holiday Ideas

What exactly is the reason behind your camping trip? To many campers, the sole purpose is to have fun – whether through playing games, relaxing and catching the refreshing air, or taking pleasure from the scenery. So once you have set-up your family tents, get ready with some fun activities that you, your friends, or your family will enjoy. Here are some camping activities to complete your outdoor adventure.

Hike. Bring some real adventure to your camping and go for a hike. You need not be extra exploratory and do a lengthier or rigorous hike as a light hike or walk around the campsite will do. If you are with your family, hiking will surely tire your kids and help them easily fall asleep at night. Hiking will allow you to discover and enjoy even more beautiful spots in your camping area.

Explore the waters. If your campsite is near water, you can go include some fun water activities to your camping agenda. White-water rafting will surely invigorate the adventurous spirit in you while kayaking or canoeing on a nearby lake will relax you. Teach your child to fish and let him learn a new sport. Just make sure you return to your campsite before nightfall as there may be difficulty finding the way back when it gets dark.

Board games + S’mores. This is one option to enjoy the night – play some board games while enjoying a delectable treat. Prepare some chocolate, marshmallow and graham crackers and you are sure to get a memorable camping experience. Play in your tent. Or, if you have something smaller like a 3 man dome tent, gather around the picnic table and bring out your favorite board games. Play UNO, or card games while indulging in a delightfully sweet dessert.

Storytelling. Sharing stories is a popular camping activity. Ghost stories and mysteries are among the favorite storytelling topics among campers. A good variation of storytelling activity for families is the story chain. A family member starts the story and allows another person to continue the plot; the story will be passed on to another person to continue until someone ends it. This will not only bond the family together, it will also stimulate the creative minds of the children.

Other camping activities you and your group can enjoy include star-gazing, biking, and cooking. Make your camping special by adding some memories through these activities. There are so many games to play, crafts to do, and stories to share so never limit your camping activities to what is traditional. Just remember to consider safety first and check that your camping activity area is a safe place to relax, have fun, and enjoy.

Vacation Beauty Tips

Author: Theodore Category: Tips

While vacations are sometimes thought to be good only for the spirit, your body can also benefit from a change in routine. By following a few simple travel beauty tips, you can make sure to come back from vacation looking better than when you left.

The most important beauty tip for maintaining your looks during a trip is to make sure to keep hydrated. Due to changes in schedule, it's easy to forget to drink enough water. Additionally, hotter locales or higher elevations can mean an increased need for fluids. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, to keep skin from sagging and wrinkles from forming.

Increased sun can also mean extra UV rays. Cover your body as much as possible, and use sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 to prevent damage to your skin. You can also use tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. The moisturizer will add UV ray protection, without as high of a risk of clogging your pores.

Your hair may also have problems adjusting to the new climate. Avoid using harsh styling tools, such as blow dryers and curling irons, as these may cause your hair to break off. Instead, switch to a light shampoo, followed by a leave-in conditioner, which may also help you control your hair. If you swim in chlorinated or salty water, remember to rinse your hair off as soon as possible to keep residue from drying out your hair further. You may want to purchase a spray in leave-in conditioner. Such a product can be easily carried in your beach bag and taken with you to the beach or pool. Then you can easily spray it into your hair right after your hair after swimming.

When planning a vacation, take some time to create a trip specific beauty routine. By being careful, you can make sure your skin enjoys the trip as much as the rest of you.

A Cruise to Hawai

Author: Theodore Category: Holiday Ideas

Of all Luxurious vacation destinations Hawaii is probably one of the most popular. If you think about Hawaii than you think of beautiful beaches, tattooed inhabitants and off course nice weather. However, when you are planning to travel to Hawaii there is always the debate if you should take a cruise or a trip by land. Both ways are an excellent way to taste what the islands have to offer but are also both rather different.

If you decide to go for a Hawaiian Cruise than you decide for an organized vacation trip. You will sail from Island to Island and you will have a certain amount of time to visit the beach or city. The main advantage of a Hawaiian cruise vacation trip is that you don't have to organize anything yourself. You don't have to organize what cities and beaches you want to visit because that is all set by the cruise company. Diner is also nothing to worry about because you will eat on the cruise ship. But there are also some disadvantages associated with a cruise. For one, you can not go where you want or how long you want because you have a tight schedule. If you really like one place than you can not decide to stay there longer.

With a trip over land this is a total different thing. The main advantage of a trip over land is that you can do whatever you want and do it when you want it. Another advantage is that you can decide to stay longer on one spot if you really like it. Off course there is also a downside, if you decide to go for a land trip than you have to arrange everything yourself from diner to sleeping place.

It is a matter of personal taste what you think is your best way to spend your holiday as there is no bad way to visit Hawaii. If you have the money than a cruise is something special that you should experience at least once in your life. If you are on a budget or if you don't like to be bounded by a schedule than a land trip is probably your best option.

How to Find Love on a Cruise

Author: Theodore Category: Holiday Ideas

If you were around for the TV show the Love Boat, you might have dreamed about going on a cruise to meet your ideal mate.   That’s one of the great things about going on a cruise.  Everyone there is ready to have a good time and is open to meeting new friends.  There are activities on the cruise that is designed to help people mingle, even if it is a short one day cruise to nowhere.  On these types of cruises, singles meet at one of the most romantic settings imaginable.  There’s the picturesque scenery of the open water, the skyline of the port city, and not to mention fine dining to be enjoyed with your fellow ship mates.

And if a mini cruise vacation does not seem to be enough to get to know your potential life-long partner, you can opt for longer cruises.  For example, on a week-long cruise, you’ll get to know each other better in a relaxed setting of exploring new cities together.  What better way to start off a relationship than having shared experiences and memories that can be captured on vacation film?  After immersing yourselves in local culture for the day, you can get back on the boat to enjoy date nights seeing a show at the lounge or at the auditorium.  This is after a romantic dinner for two, followed by some dancing of course.

That’s probably one of the best things about being on a cruise, you don’t have the pressure of thinking up things to do on a date because there’s so much to see and do.

Being on a cruise is a great way to make a love connection and that is why single cruises are so popular.  However, if things don’t work out, at least you’ll have made lots of friends and have had great memories.
